Camptown Races

Captown Races

Camptown in Pennsylvania, near Foster's hometown, is thought by some to be the inspiration for the song, though the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission cannot say for certain whether there was a racetrack in or near the city or its length. Gwine to run all night (=Going to run all night)였다고 함. Other sources say that there were horse races from the city to Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, about five miles between each city center. Others believe the song refers to "camp towns," established by transient workers near railroads. Or it could be all of the above.

The Camptown ladies sing this song

Doo-dah! Doo-dah!

The Camptown race track's five miles long
Oh! doo-dah day!  오!
I come down there with my hat caved in

Doo-dah! doo-dah!
I go back home with a pocket full of tin

Oh!  doo-dah day!  오!
Goin' to run all night

Goin' to run all day 온 종일 달려라

I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag

Somebody bet on the gray

The long tail filly and the big black hoss

Doo-dah! Doo-dah!
They fly the track

And they both cut across

Oh! doo-dah day! 오!
The blind hoss sticken in a big mud hole
Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Can’t touch bottom with a ten foot pole

Oh! doo-dah day!  오!
Goin' to run all night

Goin' to run all day 온 종일 달려라

I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag

Somebody bet on the gray

I see them flyin’ on a ten mile heat

Doo-dah! Doo-dah!

Oh, round the race track, then repeat

Oh! doo-dah day!   오!
I win my money on the bob-tail nag

Doo-dah! doo-dah!
I keep my money in an old tow-bag

Oh! doo-dah day!  오!
Goin' to run all night

Goin' to run all day   온 종일 달려라

I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag

Somebody bet on the gray

Oh,Susanna

Oh,I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee,
I'm going to Louisiana, my true love for to see
It rained all night the day I left, the weather it was dry
The sun so hot I froze to death; Susanna, don't you cry.
Oh, Susanna, don't you cry for me
I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee.
Oh,I had a dream the other night when everything was still,
I thought I saw Susanna coming up the hill,
The buckwheat cake was in her mouth
The tear was in her eye
Says I,I`m coming from the south ,Susanna don`t you cry
Oh,Susanna,Oh don`t you cry for me
I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee
