북반구는 6월 21일이 하지 : The Summer Solstice

Summer solstice–the start of astronomical summer–was this morning at 4:24 a.m. EDT. The hottest parts of summer are still weeks away, but this year’s solstice does include above-normal temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic, Southern Plains, and Pacific Northwest.

They keep saying the summer solstice is the longest day of the year, but we’re pretty sure they’re all 24 hours long. *Ba-dum tss*

Today marks the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere!

June 21 is the longest day and shortest night of the year, officially marking the beginning of astronomical summer.
This annual event occurs because Earth’s axis is tilted about 23.5 degrees. As our planet orbits the Sun, the Northern Hemisphere reaches its maximum tilt toward the Sun on the June solstice, allowing sunlight to take its highest and longest path across the sky.
The amount of daylight varies depending on location. Regions farther north experience especially long days, while areas near the Arctic Circle can enjoy nearly 24 hours of daylight, known as the “Midnight Sun.”

The Summer Solstice is a reminder of the incredible relationship between Earth and the Sun—a moment that has fascinated cultures and civilizations for thousands of years.
