모래톱 건너

Sunset and evening star,

And one clear call for me !

And may there be no moaning of the bar,

When I put out to sea.

해가 지고 저녁별 빛나는데

나를 부르는 맑은 목소리.

내가 멀리 바다로 떠날 때에

모래톱 구슬픈 울움소리 없기를 바라노라

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

Too full for sound and foam,

When that which drew from out the boudless deep

Turns again home.

가 없는 바다에서 왔던 것.

다시 고향으로 돌아갈 때

일렁임 조차 잠든 듯 잠잠한 물결에

파도 소리도 포말도 일지 않기를 바라노라

Twilight and evening bell,

And after that the dark !

And may there be no more sadness of farewell,

When I embark.

황혼에 울리는 저녁 종소리.

그 뒤에 찾아드는 어두움이여 !

내가 배에 오를 때에

이별의 슬픔은 없게 해다오.

For though from out our bourne of time and place

The flood may bear me far,

I hope to see my Pilot face to face

When I have crossed the bar.

이 세상 경계인 시간과 공간을 넘어,

물결이 나를 멀리 실어간다 하여도

저 모래톱을 건넜을 때

나의 인도자 구주를 만나기 소망하노라.

교구목사(rector)의 12자녀중 4남으로 태어남.

1850년 Wordworth 서거후 계관시인(Poet Laureate)으로 지명됨.
