"Kissing under the Mistletoe" 관용어
"미슬토 아래서 사랑고백"
서유롭(Western Europe)이나 미국의 남부 오크라호마주 인근을 겨울에 여행하다 보면, 고목(古木)에 기생하는 Mistletoe(겨우살이)를 쉽게 발견할 수 있다.. 시골에서는 크리스마스 절기가 되면 Mistletoe를 따다가 현관문에 위 사진과 같은 화환모양의 크리스마스 장식을 하기도 한다.
미국이나 유럽지역에 크리스마스 절기에 크리스마스 장식으로 달아놓은 mistletoe 아래에 서 있는 연인에게 사랑의 고백(kiss)을 하여도 좋다는 관습이 전하여지고 있으며,영어사전에도 "kissing under the mistletoe" 라는 관용구가 실려져 있다.
